Meet Our Doctors

Melissa Hudson, DVM, DABVP

Dr. Melissa attended North Carolina State University, where she earned her B.S. in Poultry Science in 1989.  She attended the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine and received her DVM in 1993. Additionally, Dr. Melissa is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, meaning she has undergone a certification process by demonstrating high standards of quality in the practice of veterinary medicine.  In 2005, she took over as Practice Owner of Northwoods Animal Hospital when Dr. Dan Hudson, her father, retired.  Dr. Melissa lives in Cary with her labradors, Mimosa and Birken, and her 2 cats, Aster and Achilles.

Jenny Nichols, DVM

Dr. Jenny Nichols is a North Carolina native from the small town of Thomasville.  She attended North Carolina State University where she obtained her bachelor's and DVM degrees.  She has enjoyed using her veterinary skills to help families and their pets in Durham and Cary since 1999 and currently lives in Cary with her husband, Jason, 2 adorable daughters, Penny, a rescue hound mix and Pickles, an orange tabby cat.  Her passions include supporting local shelters and rescue organizations, hockey, and if she ever finds time, drawing and painting.


Howard K. Chappell, DVM

In 2010, Dr. Chappell joined Northwoods Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian.  He attended North Carolina State University, earning a B.S. in Animal Science in 1991 and a DVM degree in 1995. Dr. Chappell practiced in Rocky Mount for 5 years , and then in Lewes, Delaware for 9 years prior to returning to North Carolina. An avid gardener, Dr. Chappell lives in Raleigh with his wife, Kim, and their two children. They have a cat, Gracie and a guinea pig, Hazel.
